Back in 1992, the Democrats’ mantra was “It’s the Economy, Stupid.” The economy was recovering from the 1990-91 recession, but job growth was slow and the unemployment rate held stubbornly in the mid-7% range. If the media here were really doing their job, they’d report that if the likely election of Joe Walsh in Illinois 8 over Dem Melissa Bean, a rising Democratic subcommittee chairman, is verified with finality it would well be the most stunning good news to hit the Republicans here—or in many states.
