Update: Aldermen Against 1st Amendment

Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights 26 June 2008 3 Comments

Joined by leaders from the immigrant community, Aldermen George Cardenas of the 12th Ward and Manny Flores of the 1st Ward today introduced a resolution for the Chicago City Council that condemns the increasingly venomous tone of the national immigration debate and reaffirms the City’s support for sensible solution for the immigration issue.

“Throughout our history, Chicago has welcomed immigrants from around the world, including my own family,” said Alderman Cardenas at a City Hall press conference announcing the resolution. “Our city was built by immigrants, and has respected the contributions that immigrants have made and will continue to make. Unfortunately, the overall climate surrounding the immigration issue has turned more and more ugly, fed in particular by cable news. It’s time that our city took a stand against the hateful rhetoric.”

To what hateful rhetoric are they referring? Are they prepared to give any examples. I’ve been involved with this issue at a city level I haven seen their side label ANYONE who disagrees with them as racist, xenophobic, and anti-immigrant. The wonderful Coalition of Imm. and Refugee rights went as far as labeling certain people as Aryan Supremicists, simply because they wanted our immigration law enforced. If they’re looking to extinguish hateful rhetoric, shouldn’t they lead by example?

This is the report in reference

It is certainly a debatable report, and doesn’t really identify hatefulness by Lou Dobbs etc., however much I may disagree with the flopped space.com founder.

Tell me Mr Cardenas, which country in the WEST was not built by immigrants?

And why should we let the LATINO community practice DE FACTO DISCRIMINATION IN IMMIGRATION WHICH OBVIOUSLY FAVORS MEXICANS and other Latinos? It seems to be of Latinos, by Latinos andfor Latinos…. to hell with all the others.
