Can Events Trump Politics in the MidEast?

The Chicago Tribune’s Steve Chapman cheers Sen. Obama for holding to withdrawing troops regardless of the circumstances in Iraq and the MidEast. I actually believe that one can mature while not wavering (flip-flopping) in their political campaigns, yet I agree with Chapman’s observation that Sen. Obama is not straying substantially from his left-wing voting record, regardless of how the rest of the media potrays him.

Syria will open an embassy in Lebanon. Lebanon may also opened an embassy in Syria. Syria has pretty much stopped sending fighters into Iraq to battle with the Coalition forces and Iraqi civilians. Israel has sent a peace offer to Syria via Turkey. France is stepping up diplomatic efforts inviting both Israel and Syrian leaders to a Bastille Day celebration. Political Treachery in the Name of Israel and Judaism

As an American Jew I find that the most deceitful, depraved and disgusting sub-campaign of the presidential season is the viral e-mail and blogging attack on Barack Obama that characterizes him as an enemy of Israel if not Judaism itself.

This campaign goes far beyond the false but persistent rumor that he is a Muslim—as if that in itself were a criminal position—but tries to put him in the political bed of every enemy of Israel and America of the past half century.

Some of the slime that enters my inbox makes Joseph McCarthy look like the chairman of the ACLU.

The most recent, well-circulated missive comes from one Leon A. Weinstein of California who offers as his bona fides the claim that he is a Russian immigrant who first lived in Israel before coming to the States, and elsewhere describes himself as a marketing expert who has pledged ... Trib Propaganda for Obama

What total junk. Fine if you want to put this on the OpEd page, but on the front page?!

Tribune “reporter” Naftali Bendavid, apparently based in DC, writes an Obama propaganda piece, “Obama courts Jewish vote as doubts persist”.

The doubts come from Obama’s own words and actions which continue to be reprehensible, but Bendavid joins the whining Barack chorus claiming it’s some kind of “far right” conspiracy by his use of sanitizing words and neglecting to mention salient facts. Obama fundraiser and professor friend Rashid Khalidi is described by Bendavid as a “Palestinian activist” when he in fact was a PR operative for the terrorist PLO.
