Empty Package from Denver

Unlike John McCain, who has the experience, vision and leadership to guide this country in turbulent times, the Obama camp is attempting to sell sizzle instead of steak. They don’t want the voters to look too closely, because, frankly, there is nothing there.

Families are worried about health care. Unlike John McCain’s health care plan, which is designed to return more control to the patients regarding their health care needs, Obama’s plan would result in higher taxes on businesses and individuals and, in the end, not cover all Americans.

Families want relief from high gas prices. John McCain advocates a comprehensive approach to alternative fuels while at the same time not increasing our dependency on foreign oil, which is what Obama’s windfall profits tax plan would do.

Further, Durkin said, Obama’s speech did not fully address the nature or scope of Wright’s remarks.

“Some people say these remarks were taken out of context, but I don’t know what other explanation you can offer. How you can say that what he said is not what he meant?” Durkin said. “He talks about the U.S. government injecting the AIDS virus into black Americans as a form of genocide. He’s suggests that somehow 9/11 was something America brought on itself.”

Obama’s long-standing and ongoing association with Wright, Durkin said, speaks to issues of judgment, which, he said, Obama has placed at the heart of his own campaign when applied to such issues as the Iraq ... Read More...

McCain's Pains

A year ago John McCain was the certain GOP nominee and almost a shoo-in for election—the one guy who could cross party lines and lure Democrats in a Reagan rerun.
That was then. This is now.

The Arizona senator slid down the slippery slope of immigration reform faster than an Olympic bobsled.

Yes, he was and probably still is the strongest supporter of and apologist for Bush’s war—though Giuliani runs a close second—but he also supported Bush’s “amnesty” immigration plan along with Ted Kennedy. This, the one seriously acceptable social program the administration ever proposed, remains a live third rail among Republican voters and poor McCain electrocuted himself.

A couple of months ago his funds were drying up, his staff disassembling and the punditocracy said it was all over for the Viet war hero. Likely it is—he’s just an asterisk below the Guiliani-Romney-Thompson-Huckabee leadership tier—but there is ... Read More...
