(Before the Voters Get the Chance to Reject Her)
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky is taking a pass on the race for Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.
In a phone interview, the Evanston Democrat said the while she’s concluded that “I have a good chance to win this race,” she’s also decided that this is not the time to spend many months raising money and barnstorming from Chicago to Cairo.

Here’s some unsolicited advice for Alexi Giannoulias, Jan Schakowsky, Roland Burris and Jesse Jackson Jr.: Just say no.
Don’t run for the Democratic nomination for U.S. senator in 2010. Spare Illinois the mountain of muck that will surely erupt around your respective candidacies.
But, in the heart of every politician, hope springs eternal. So does self-delusion. The Feb. 2, 2010 primary is slightly more than eight months away. And this much is certain:

Sneed has learned Chris Kennedy, son of the late U.S. Sen. Robert Kennedy, may be this/close to entering the U.S. Senate sweepstakes from Illinois.
•  To wit: “Right now, it’s an 85 percent chance Chris is going to do it,” a top Kennedy source tells Sneed. Kennedy has commissioned a poll, which is expected at the end of the week and “will give him a better lay of the land in this ever-changing race,” the source said.
