Was it cholera or murder? Almost 60 Irish immigrants working on a railroad project near Philadelphia in the early 1880s died. Cholera was blamed, but some skulls found the site suggests that some were victims of awful violence. The Wall…

If Arizona is not allowed to have its own “immigration policy,” as the Obama Department of Justice insists, then why is Chicago and other local or state governments allowed to have their own immigration policies by creating sanctuaries for illegal immigrants?
Chicago, Evanston, Cicero and scores, if not hundreds, of other state and local governments have established themselves as “sanctuary cities” in which they have prescribed their own rules prohibiting the reporting by their law enforcement officers of illegal immigrants to federal authorities.
Is a clear violation of federal law and court …

It is easy to understand the concept of Federal preemption in a number of contexts: there are no state bankruptcy courts, for example, since bankruptcy is exclusively a federal court matter. In other areas, however, it is less than clear where federal authority is absolute and where a state law can mirror legislation passed by Congress. For decades, Chicago and many of its suburbs ignored the Second Amendment by enacting gun laws that were ultimately stricken by the US Supreme Court as unconstitutional despite numerous favorable rulings which upheld the …

For weeks, Americans have been following the ongoing disaster in the Gulf of Mexico as a British Petroleum offshore oil well has been spewing thousands of gallons of crude oil into the ocean each day. At the same time, our diligent President has been busy golfing, attending musical concerts and watching the Washington Nationals play baseball. In addition to ignoring the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico for weeks on end, Mister Obama is also trying to deceive the American public about another runaway disaster.

For months and years, …

A week barely goes by without Barack Obama further securing his hold on the title I gave him some months ago—decidedly the worst president of the United States compared to the 43 who preceded him in the 221 year history of the office.

Fortunately, he has botched his politics so badly he has increased chances of his defeat in 2012—something I look forward to: if the country can survive until then.
Last week he further clinched being the worst and the most politically inept with four baldly partisan acts masquerading as diplomacy …

A Public Relations Move—That’s All.
Where’s the president’s shrink—if he has one? Barack Obama meets with Republicans on the Arizona immigration mess…holds forth as he has in public that the law is possibly unconstitutional…gets huffy with the lawmakers—and after they go back to the Capitol they’re told via e-mail that he’s sending 1,200 troops along with $500 million to serve as a stopgap in Arizona, something he neglected to tell them a few hours earlier in their meeting.

Not that the sending troops there for a short time will do all that …

Who in his right mind would be against health insurance for every child in Illinois?
Certainly none of the politicians, health care providers, labor unions and special interests that in 2005 so enthusiastically bought into then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s All Kids program. Certainly not tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, the major beneficiaries of the program. From Citizen Action/Illinois to the Illinois Hospital Association, from the Chicago Teachers Union to the Peruvian Cultural Center, they all hailed it as some kind of nirvana.

They were wrong. Now, five years later, All Kids has …

It’s time for some remedial classes for Congress and the Administration. Someone has to teach them how to read. Someone has to tell them that they need to read bills before they sign them into law, and read laws before they criticize or make plans to bring suit against them.

Senator Christopher Dodd told the nation that he didn’t know he had favored status and was given a mortgage far below the going rate. He said he hadn’t read a letter from the mortgage company telling him of …

It had to happen. Religious leaders didn’t take long to deploy their biggest gun in the illegal immigration debate: morality.
As in, “You, me and everyone are morally required to oppose Arizona’s law empowering state and local law enforcement officers to ask, when there is reasonable cause, for proof of citizenship.”
Anointed they may be by their various denominations, but for them to see any immorality in law enforcement officers asking for identification stretches the word’s meaning way out of shape.
When you start flinging around “moral imperatives,” you are rolling out the …
