That tall, handsome, exotic looking guy running for the U.S. Senate from Illinois electrified the 2004 Democratic National Convention with rousing words declaiming there is no Red America and no Blue America but only the United States of America! (The colors, of course, referred to television’s practice of tinting Democratic states blue and GOP states red on election maps. Fox would probably prefer tinting the Dems red.)

Once the exotic looking guy was on the road to and then actually in the White House, the credo became “bipartisanship,” meaning red and …

From Forbes
I happened to catch President Obama’s remarks on CNBC this morning, and one of the commentators made a smart observation about the president’s rhetoric, in particular the use of “we” when referring to the stoppage of the leak. As long as oil was flowing, the White House seemed to couch it largely as BP’s problem (though he did say that before the recent cap “we” were only capturing about 25,000 barrels a day) . But now that it has stopped–at least for now–the Obama administration seems to be taking …

From Gateway Pundit
“I’m not going to rest or be satisfied until the leak is stopped at the source, the oil in the Gulf is contained and cleaned up, and the people in the Gulf are able to go back to their lives and their livelihoods.”

Republican candidate for LG Jason Plummer drew the line in the sand against releasing his individual tax return to the public weeks ago, and he’s not budging, no matter how hard the media pushes.  In an interview with Associated Press, he said:
“I don’t think a person’s economic status, their financial status, should be a standard for whether or not they can run for office,” Plummer said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I’ve never voted for anyone because they’re rich or poor, white collar or blue collar. I vote on the …

Obama said that Kagan’s confirmation would create “a court that would be more inclusive, more representative, more reflective of us as a people than ever before.”Huh? It would mean that every single justice is a product of either Harvard Law or Yale Law. It would mean the last three appointees were undergraduate alumni of Princeton. It would mean that both of Obama’s appointees were women who grew up in New York City, as did the only other woman on the court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. (Two other justices were born in nearby …

The anger is genuine and needs no mongering. Democrats and Republicans detest the Obama Care Bill. I am a Democrat and my neighbors are Democrats. We do not like this force fed boondoggle any more than a poor goose likes having corn forced down its throat.

Ironically, the very same band of nitwits in public life who hate smoking, fat kids, fois gras and American History crafted the Obama Care Legislation and stand poised to make America go the way of Greece, Ireland and Portugal once the Obama …

Hot on the heels of the liberal women religious orders thatreleased a statement yesterday in support of the anti-life health care bill, this statement was released today by the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (bold parts are mine):
In a March 15th statement, Cardinal Francis George, OMI, of Chicago, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, spoke on behalf of the United States Bishops in opposition to the Senate’s version of the health care legislation under consideration because of its expansion of abortion funding and its lack of …

From James Tarranto in the WSJ
We’ve noticed a troubling trend in American politics. This is a Puffington Host post from October 2008:
A local station runs a disturbing story about a Ohio resident named Mike Lunsford who has hung an effigy of Barack Obama in his front yard. Lunsford freely admits that he is against Obama because of his race.
Here’s a CBS News story from last October:
Randall Terry, the anti-abortion rights activist and Operation Rescue founder, believes it’s time to “start drawing from our proud American tradition of burning people in effigy.”
And he’s …

It’s difficult to have rational conversations these days when the subject of politics come up. There is such anger out there…even among people who used to enjoy the lively art of debate. People are now blind to see or deaf to hear another viewpoint. In fact, they even cut you off before you begin.

As an example, I recently attended a wonderful birthday party for a friend. The home was filled with people when I arrived and the guest of honor greeted me with a big …

I am at the stage of my life where I can do anything I want (that is legal, ethical and moral)having achieved my realistic goals. Last year I decided to engage in a controlled experiment with myself as the guinea pig. It would have entailed me spending most of my time in New York state. Therefore, when I was told that Dan Hynes was going to run for Governor (and that Lisa Madigan was not) I decided to give up my personal experiment to work hard …
