Republicans want lieutenant governor post eliminated

A group of Republicans in the Illinois House said Thursday that one of their plans to save the state money is eliminating the office of lieutenant governor, which would save the state about $2.5 million. State Sen. and gubernatorial candidate Matt Murphy recently suggested that at the very least the line item for the currently vacant post should be eliminated from the 2010 budget.
