The city's Olympics bid committee is ramping up its local public relations effort in anticipation of what could be rocky City Council hearings later this month.
Chicago 2016 announced that, beginning on Wednesday, it will meet with residents of each of the city's 50 wards to answer questions and talk about why winning the games would be a good deal for Chicago.
The action follows weeks of bad publicity over Mayor Richard M. Daley's flip-flop on whether the city will fully guarantee the finances of the projected $4-billion games. Mr. Daley and Chicago 2016 officials say a contract including such a guarantee will be signed if the city is awarded the games later this year. But they insist there is zero chance taxpayers will have to pay because the organizers will obtain $1 billion in private insurance.
The City Council is scheduled to review the matter sometime in August.

The first 2016 community meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at McKinley Park Field House, 2210 W. Pershing Road, for residents of the 11th, 12th and 25th Wards. Other meetings — to be attended by Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick Ryan and others — will be listed at www.chicago2016.org/backthebid.

Meanwhile, No Games Chicago has posted its own videos making the opposite case. You can find them here and here.
