The Chicago Crime Commission, the long running civic group opposed to the Chicago Mob and corruption, has criminal defense attorney Dan Webb on its Board of Directors ( check their website which is encrypted). Here's a description from Webb's law firm :
Most recently, Mr. Webb served as lead counsel in the six-month jury trial of former Illinois Gov. George H. Ryan on public corruption charges, including racketeering, mail fraud, and income tax fraud. The charges were related to actions Ryan took while serving as Illinois Secretary of State and later as governor. While the publicity was heaviest in Chicago, the indictment also garnered nationwide attention, including articles in The New York Times.
Webb was also a defense attorney in the massive Chicago Mob linked Operation Gambat trials. Every defendant deserves a criminal lawyer. But does a major Chicago civic group founded on fighting crime have to put a most prominent criminal defense attorney on its' board?
