Barack Obama’s New BFFs: The Tea Party?
As you know if you read my column yesterday, like my fellow “sellout” Col. Alan West, I continue to support House Speaker John Boehner’s bill to raise the debt ceiling. I acknowledge that reasonable minds can differ on this issue. Witness Rush Limbaugh and Thomas Sowell, both great conservative thinkers on opposite sides.
I think most of you know that I have been on the same page with my Tea Party friends for some time. I spoken at their events. I have supported their insistence on a return to fiscal sanity and an end to throwing our hard-earned tax money down various government ratholes. What I don’t support is handing a victory to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and assisting in the re-election of the worst president of the modern era, a narcissistic Marxist determined to “remake” our country into something the Founders wouldn’t recognize.
Newsflash to my ideologically-pure friends: the debt limit is going to be raised. Repeating: the debt ceiling is going to be raised. End of story. The only question is that going to happen with some small steps toward our ultimate objectives, cutting spending, a conservative Congress and a president who actually supports the Constitution, rather than considering it an annoying obstacle to his creation of a Euro-style socialist utopia right here in the good ole’ USA, or is it going to be a disastrous typical Washington "compromise" crafted by "moderates?"
Eyes on the prize, my fellow conservatives. As I said yesterday, the democrats’ bombastic claim that Boehner’s bill is “DOA” in the Senate is a bluff we need to call. Are democrats from conservative states like Claire McCaskill, John Tester, and Mark Warner really going to be able to explain why they voted against it? Perhaps. That should be fun to watch.
What a difference a week makes. Just last Friday, Barack Obama was the petulant brat who stamped his feet and squealed in frustration when he realized that the GOP was not going to give in without a fight. I think he was stunned. I was a bit surprised myself. At the beginning of this whole conversation, I feared that the GOP would manage to screw this up by collapsing like a cheap card table and go along to get along. When they didn’t, I cheered. Now it appears that the Tea Party, of all groups, may somehow manage to transform B. Hussein Obama, whose incompetence, weakness and lack of leadership has been prominently on display and whose poll numbers are dropping like a stone across nearly every constituency, into the Great Compromiser and savior of the economy that he has nearly destroyed. I thought it was liberals who wallowed in emotion and assuaged their low self-esteem with sanctimonious delusions of their intellectual and moral superiority. Conservatives are supposed to see the big picture and to care about results. They understand that the perfect is the enemy of the good.
I pray that my Tea Party friends will come to their senses. Otherwise, I hope that the warm feeling of self-righteous satisfaction and certitude that they were absolutely right makes them feel better on January 20, 2013 when the democrats are celebrating the re-election of the Anointed One.
