I have disputed Sen. Obamas oratory since he was running against Alan Keyes, who generally defeated Sen. Obama in debate, while not having a serious chance in the general election.
Obama confirms his weaker than advertised skills in his muddled explanation of his put-down of small town America.
“I didn’t say it as well as I should have,” the Illinois senator said at a campaign rally at Ball State University in Indiana while dismissing it as “a typical sort of political flare-up because I said something that everybody knows is true.”
So if I have this right, because Sen. Obama says it, then “everybody knows its true”. Oh sure, small town America has been enjoying guns, religion and foreign trade for 232 years now, but Sen. Obama has declared the facts, so everyone else must be wrong.
David Axelrod can try to astroturf over this, as he has with Rev. Wright (and Michelle Obama btw), but the audacious Senator is creating quite a track record with his “unifying” rhetoric.

Hey, the Kite Runner Bob Creamer went after McCain and whacked him a good one with cotton-candy!
John says:
Obama includes religion, along with guns, xenophobia, and bigotry as things that small town people cling to because they are bitter at their economic disadvantage.
He says this in private to wealthy San Fransisco donors, who probably feel the same way and did not consider it controversial.
His attempt to "unsay" it and claim that what he meant to say was some construct he obviously wished he had said was laughable.
There was nothing unclear about his original statement on April 6. He thinks religion is an anachronism that will disappear with prosperity.
While his supporters may "cling" to the hope that this will blow over, Obama is toast.
Americans will rightfully not elect a secular humanist or atheist as president.

Carol,
I am thinking of joining one of the anti-immigrant Rust-Belt churches or gun clubs to try and polish up my rust-belt credentials.

Right on this guy sounds good as long as he is planned but off the cuff he can never get it right.
Carol Clark says:
Your ignorance is showing! Any thinking, caring person, would agree with Obama, not so much the manner in which he voiced his views, but like it or not, Obama's statement is true. He wasn't demeaning the poor people of small town Penn. he was stating his observations - have you, almighty John Powers, ever visited the Rust Belt to speak with the residents there? I'm doubtful! Take your frustrations out on the lying, coniving, and treacherous Hillary Clinton.
