Sen. Obama has sent out a snippy statement via ABC‘S Good Morning America warning his opponents they should “be careful” in making his wife an issue “because that I find unacceptable.”
The Chicago Daily Observer has been a critic of Sen. and Mrs. Obama since starting publication 9 months ago, so we flatter ourselves to think that Sen. Obama may be distressed by any scrutiny or criticism of his full time campaigning wife in our newspaper. The thought of a man trying to gain trust as the Chief Executive of the United States threatening his political opponents with retribution for daring to speak out against his political campaign is truly stifling to democracy. Michelle Obama is campaigning for a man promising to raise our taxes, tear up trade agreements with Canadians, and establish gender based wage equity across industries enforced by the Federal Government. Isn’t it punishment enough to have Sen. Obama elected, without him getting vindicative?
Michelle Obama’s background is summarized by Progressive Magazine “The Obama campaign has even put out a misleading bio of Michelle Obama, representing her as having grown up in poverty on the South Side, when, in fact, her parents were city workers, and her father was a Daley machine precinct captain. This fabrication, along with those embroideries of the candidate’s own biography, may be standard fare, the typical log cabin narrative. However, in Obama’s case, the license taken not only underscores Obama’s more complex relationship to insider politics in Daley’s Chicago; it also underscores how much this campaign depends on selling an image rather than substance”.
Following a a stint at Sidley Austin, the law firm which had employed Bernadine Dohrn, then acting as an assistant to Mayor Daley, Mrs. Obama has been a long time employee of the University of Chicago, where her two children attend the very private University of Chicago Lab School, which Sen. Obama has stated is not available for parents who cannot “work the system”.
Michelle’s career at the University of Chicago has taken a meteoric rise, parallel to the political fortunes of her husband, with her salary being hiked $121,910 to $316,962 within 2 months of her husband being seated in the Senate. Her position, per the University of Chicago is responsible for all programs and initiatives that involve the relationship between the Hospitals and the community, quite a task for someone who has been on a presidential campaign for nearly two years. Mrs. Obama is also responsible for an ominous sounding business “diversity” program at the U of C Hospitals.
Mrs. Obama has been very active in the campaign of Sen. Obama, making such oratorial gems as “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback” and insulting a wide range of Americans with the challenge “Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual; uninvolved, uninformed” projecting sentencing us to 4 years of lectures by the demanding first couple to absolve us of our unimportance. And who can forget the charming “Life for regular folks has gotten worse over the course of my lifetime” despite unmatched economic growth and technological advances in the last 40 years.
As Mark Steyn noted Mrs. Obama seems unfazed by financial success “Addressing a group of struggling women in economically torpid central Ohio, Michelle Obama eschewed the usual I-feel-your-pain shtick and invited her audience to fee hers, lurching into a long riff on the expense of extracurricular activities for her daughters, piano and ballet and summer camp, and somehow she and Barack are expected to figure out how to pay for it on a combined salary of 500 grand a year, not including his book royalties and her corporate directorship.”
However Mrs. Obama also has been offering solutions to the malaise she has declared: More government. Michelle trumpets abandoning enterprise saying “We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we’re asking young people to do”, demanding “Don’t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.” So if I have this straight, more people need to work for the money pit of healthcare and government, so that “your salaries respond”. Never mind that someone has to pay taxes to fund all of the socialist schemes, these “are the careers we need”.
We have seen no evidence of Mrs. Obama or her husband ever engaging in Capitalism in their lives. Both have been activists or government employees never once put to the test of the marketplace. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if someone running for office actually had the 1/10 experience level of say an Exterminator before lecturing the public on how to make career choices?
Michelle Obama made the conscious choice to be a major part of Sen. Obama’s presidential campaign. She also made the conscious choice to take up some of the most ludicrous and radical positions of the Obama platform. Perhaps if Sen. Obama does not want his wife to be in the political fray, he can stop sending his wife out to act as an advocate for the authoritarian Left. Then again, perhaps Sen. Obama wants his wife to catch the political flak, so as to deny the actual issues of his campaign and concentrate on further glossing his image.

This is the first time I've read anything from the Chicago Daily Observer. It's also the last.

Superb analysis! Michelle Obama may be playing Lady MacBeth this November.
