Which of “the” mentally ill? Like “the” Jews and “the” Blacks, “the” mentally ill paints with a very broad brush.

So far Mr. Scalia’s errors have not been addressed by anyone in the media, they are:

Laws single out people who have been involuntarily committed, not a “the” mentally ill.

Ethically one does not abstract a group to a generic “the” Jews, “the” Blacks, or “the” mentally ill.

Would you please react to his errors.

Yes, they are bothers in arms. Both deny history and reality. Both rely on bombastic anti-gun rhetoric instead action to suppress the urban gangs or correct the social conditions that spawn them. As such both are a disservice to their electorate.

I admit to being as imprecise in my definition of “the mentally ill” as Justice Scalia is in his opinion. Since he did not precisely define what mentally ill is in this context the only reference to the mentally ill is in the syllabus Section 2. I shall go out on a speculative limb and posit that that means any state statute which would hold that any possession of a firearm by the mentally ill of that state poses a substantive danger to themselves or the community and that said state would have the right to prohibit firearms ownership to those persons. Admittedly this looks like another matter for further adjudication.

The singular inability of big city Democrat mayors to differentiate between the law abiding and the criminal in the matter of gun ownership may be highly revealing. Would the psychoanalysts out there say they are projecting themselves onto the public at large with their contempt for public gun ownership?

Each of the states has their own laws stating what must be present for prohibiting one from possessing a weapon.

Can someone show me where people suffering from mental illness or veterans suffering from Post traumatic stress disorder are any more likely to commit a crime that any other demographic group in the country?

What about some of these felony convictions? Gun dealers with paper work violations on their 4473 forms are being turned into felons for clerical errors. Use a “Y” for Yes and an “N” for No and you could be a felon. Forget to log a gun into your log book and you could be a felon.

What about David Olofson a Wisconsin drill instructor for the National Guard that loaned an AR 15 to a young man that slammed fired a condition that occurs when a gun is damaged or has worn parts/broken parts. He’s now serving 30months in prison. No criminal intent!

People in the U.S., in increasingly overwhelming numbers, are sheep who want to be cared for and protected by the government. That’s why so many of them (especially Obama supporters) embrace the ever-widening cradle-to-grave welfare system. The thought of having to choose and pay for a gun, and then assume responsibility for learning how to use and maintain it makes them choke on their Starbucks. So Daley may well win on this issue.

As for Mr. Maio, (LOVE all your credentials – great ego manifestation!) as you are well aware, mental illness is a condition that is diagnosed and treated by physicians. It is considered to be a biologically based brain disorder. But all too often in this “I’m Okay – You’re Okay” society, psychologists and psychiatrists suggest we place blame for everything that occurs on some outside influence and then we are prescribed medications by the truckload. For a good example, it appears physicians will not be happy until every human being is taking an antidepressant. They even prescribe it for back pain now.

Instead of slamming the Justices for the failures of your profession, look inward and get a handle on defining who REALLY is “mentally ill” and who is not.
