Can’t You Feel Hillary’s Pain?
On the one hand, Hillary Clinton could just be a very happy woman about now. Witnessing the blockbuster Sarah Palin speech at the Republican convention Thursday night, she has to feel more than a glimmer of hope that Barack Obama will lose in November, making her the presumptive nominee for the Democrats four years from now starting on election day 2008. (And giving her “I told you so” rights galore.)
Her moment of glory and vindication may keep getting delayed, but in her mind it’s all about patience, patience, patience.
On the other hand, watching Sarah Palin had to be a little bit like The Grinch watching from afar on Christmas Morning as the “Whos” in “Whoville” welcomed the true meaning of Christmas. That inspite of the Grinch’s efforts to stop it, by swiping all of their Christmas goodies. Remember how The Grinch looked on as the Whos embraced a Christmas morning, without any “stuff,” which he couldn’t understand, and he was left stunned and only to comment with complete befuddlement that, “it had come without packages, boxes or bags!”
Funny, I just couldn’t help but think there was something more than a little in common with that old Grinch and Hillary Clinton as she watched what she had to immediately understand was the American people falling in love with Sarah Palin. Did she get a glimpse into the first woman President of the United States? Did she realize she’d seen the future – and it wasn’t Hillary Clinton?
“But wait a minute” you can almost hear Hillary Clinton say to all those ungrateful Americans – you people are supposed to want ME, ME! I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve sacrificed for this. I’ve stayed married to Bill because of this! I’m the one. You owe ME!”
“Her? Her? She doesn’t play the victim card! She doesn’t talk about glass ceilings and how she’s badly treated because she’s a woman. Are you people crazy? She’s not a woman, she’s pro-life. Pro-life. She likes babies! And guns. And men. And she’s really good-looking! It’s not fair!”
One can feel Hillary Clinton’s sense that she’s entered an alternative universe. “Sarah Palin hasn’t even lived on the East Coast – not ever! And you people love her?”
It came with packages, boxes or bags. . .
And so Sarah Palin’s star suddenly ascended, as in “I am a real woman – hear me roar”. And she threatens Hillary Clinton and everything the feminists stand for. As I said in a column on the Daily Observer immediately after the Palin nomination, in the feminist world real women only look and act and think a certain way. Just as the Left attempted to destroy Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas because he dared to think differently than black Americans “ought” to think, so too they must destroy Sarah Palin lest the world see that American women don’t “have” to think a certain way at all.
Because if women don’t have to believe certain things, act a certain way, have a certain chip on their shoulders, then just why do we need the modern-day feminists and their agenda after all.
Suddenly the Helen Reddy song from the 1970s has taken on a whole new meaning. “I am woman, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore. . . “
Yikes for Hillary. This has got to hurt.

What hurts are women like you who are bamboozled by a mean, immature twit with a nasty mouth like Palin. I am not “in love” with her, and neither are any of my female friends. To the contrary, we see her for exactly what she is – an extraordinarily cynical attempt by McCain to salvage his candidacy.

Obama was the one who focused on personality when he put his “judgement and change” against Hillary’s experience.
Now he is in trouble. Equally charming, Sara Palin has better judgement and has actually changed things. McCain has more experience and has actually reformed things.
That leaves him nowhere but out!
If you think Hillary is “whining”, you aren’t witnessing the same Hillary I am. Hillary’s supporters “have her back”, so to speak, and they are the most vocal about the primary inequities, not Hillary herself. Besides, it’s about much more than sexism to begin with. Try reading “Democratic Disenfranchisement..The Final Report”, or, read a bit about “Caucus fraud”, and HDean’s reluctance to prohibit this fraud.
You are missing some very big pieces of this puzzle. In the meantime, why don’t you lay off Hillary!!
Ms. Hart, your high school level analysis suits your candidate with a high school level intelligence. Palin has no grasp of issues except what she has been fed by her team. Clinton has years of experience and insight. Palin and Hart have the combined insight of a partying cheerleader.
Isn’t it ironic…Hillary is actually the woman who “fights” for childrens’issues, and has her entire adult life. Hillary is the one who has been a strong advocate for children’s health insurance,(even before it was cool to do so) co-sponsoring adoption legislation, aiding wounded veterans, but Palin is getting crowned the all American good mother. Pleaseeee, Palin cut funding for special needs children by 60% in Alaska. Can you imagine how villifying the press would have been to Hillary if Chelsea had been on drugs, became pregnant, or was arrested for drinking like so many other children of Presidents or candidates?!?! We’d never hear the end of what a terrible mother Hillary was!! Geeezzzz………..
Just read an article mentioning Palin as “whining” about the media being mean. Well, well, well…..if the first week caused this reaction, I wonder how she would survive 20yrs. of relentless attacks. Hillary is stronger than most.
I am an ardent Hillary supporter, but still do not know how I will vote. I have very poignant feelings about both the Dem and Rep parties. I’ll just wait and watch the show til Nov.

Normally I’d say something snarky about this idiotic statement, but I’ll try to educate you.
Palin single-handedly negotiated a deal with three massive oil companies, ending an impasse that had lasted 30 years and getting everything the state of Alaska had asked. It was just her against the lawyers, and they caved.
She negotiated a natural-gas pipeline that had also languished for decades. She went in a kicked booty and got it done, all by herself.
She rewrote ethics standards for politicians that have since become Alaska’s law.
She and the Commander of the Alaska National Guard created a strategic plan for recruiting and retaining guardsmen that stopped a downward tend and will keep the Guard in good shape until 2012.
This is an amazingly accomplished person, and you insult your own intelligence by refusing to recognize this.
Betsy and Tom your wasting your time trying to educate anyone on the left, but I’ll give you both credit that your facts are straight and for trying, that’ll really pi** em off even more and make them less coherent than they already are in their future increasingly vitriolic responses to these posts.

These people speak about Hillary doing this, Hillary did that, etc etc. What Hillary did the most of is sell her soul standing by a man that treated her like gutter trash all her adult life, all so she could advance her own status and agenda on the back of his questionable accomplishments.

Her senate seat is owed to her husband Slick and hsi connections, that is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. However His clout wore thin and a ridiculously inexperienced fraud who will also get beat like a drum in November dis-assembled the Clinton Machine campaign like an erector set, and that in itself is pathetic on it’s own merit.
The Clinton era is over and America is a better place for it.
Sarah Palin on the other hand is everything these supposed feminists declare to be about, everything and more. She’s achieved all her accomplishments on her own, raised a absolutely normal American family, so normal that one of her children as we know has already sadly begun to ruin her life, but not ruining yet another by paying some half as*sed doctor to murder who she created by accident to make her life more convenient. That is opposed to the miserable, sex craved irresponsible animals on the left who cannot control their hormones and use murder for birth control.
Palin also had no father in politics greasing the financial and political skids like the left wing Kennedy’s, the Pelosi’s, the Feinstein’s,the Bush’s and the Clinton’s, with her philandering rapist husband blazing the trail for her to crawl through on her knees all the way, and a decade of doing it as a Mayor and a Governor to boot. More experience than The Oreo Messiah and the Slickmeister himself had when he went from governor to the presidency for criminy’s sake.
Palin makes the Messiah look like Bozo the clown and that’s the bottom line. Barry’s back to community organizing and he sucked at that too, I know as I’m a Chicagoan and have seen this fraud in action for 10 years now, nothing to show for it. Nothing.

One correction – Hilliary is not a “modern-day feminist”. As my son told me recently, she is a “Neo-feminist”. He explained that a Neo-feminist wants to do what she wants, when she wants and how she wants without some other feminist telling her to stay in her place.

Excellent column,Ms Hart…you succinctly stated what I and a lot of other people have believed for a long time about so-called ‘feminism’ and about Rodham’s presumptuous arrogance that was based on those very same ideological assumptions about women…personally, I could never respect a woman who lets a low bred serial rapist dump on her for 30 years..much less vote for her…Sarah Palin is like a cool drink of water after a long dry spell…refreshing,satisfying,and reassuring that God’s in His heaven and all’s right with the world.
People who have nothing to hide don’t hide behind their campaign manager!! Why Sarah Palin is avoiding interviews??
What is she afraid of?? All you hardheaded republicans wouldn’t that be a question on your minds if she god forbid was a democrat???
So is THIS your idea of feminism? Being bitchy about another woman because she only had one baby instead of five and because she supports gun control and universal health care but not bombing Iran and the death penalty? (Which can also be seen as pro-life, though Hillary is pro-choice; she believes abortion should be “safe, legal and rare” unlike Palin who would make our daughters labor over a misconception — even in cases of rape and incest.)
And why should Sarah or Hillary’s physical appearance figure into this conversation? Only thing worse than a male chauvenist pig is a female one…
