Welcome to Cook County Magazine

Tired of getting “pummeled by the newspapers every day,” Cook County Board president Todd Stroger’s administration has decided to counter with a new magazine overseen by county officials.

Publisher/editor Theresa Tracy said Cook County magazine would be “independently published” and a “credible, compelling and valuable resource” for county residents.

But county officials have the final say on what’s published. And Tracy accepted $24,999 from Stroger’s administration last November to launch the magazine—$1 under the amount that would have required the approval of the full Cook County Board.

John M McCarthy says:

Todd Stroger was selected, NOT elected, by the Daley Machine to succeed his corrupt father for one reason only: So the Daley clan could keep the black vote in line. The black voters of Cook County should be ashamed of a moron like Stroger representing them, and should be seething at the Daley clan for thinking so little of them that they foisted Stroger upon the county.
"Vote for me because I'm black and Daley said so" is just as insulting to black voters as Barack Obama running on the platfom of "Vote for me because I'm black, and Oprah and Daley said so".
Please tell me this ain't the best the black leadership of Chicago and Cook County can come up with.
