State closer to selling Lincoln Hotel

The state treasurer’s office cleared another hurdle Friday in its efforts to sell the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel and Conference Center at auction.

Sangamon County Circuit Judge Patrick Londrigan entered a new foreclosure order that not only includes the hotel owners, but also the city of Springfield and the Springfield Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority. Both entities have a financial stake in the downtown hotel.

This is a decision that should have been made years ago. Of course, Judy Baar Topinka was running interference for the cloutmeisters who borrowed state funds to build the hotel. It seemed as if every state employee called upon to visit Springfield was obliged to stay at this hotel. Nonetheless, the owners managed to lose money.
