Chicago's 'hidden tax increase'

County commissioner’s TIF tiff with Daley in the spotlight

Mayor Daley’s record $108 million property tax hike was bad news in a lot of quarters, but it could actually turn out to be good news for Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley.

Finally, maybe somebody will start listening to him.

“I don’t think the city has any more right to raise property taxes than does the county,” Quigley said Wednesday, and if you’re wondering why anybody should care what a county commissioner has to say about it, hear him out.

Mark 'Cop Basher' Brown has been joined at the hip with the Uriah Heep of Illinois for years.

Quigley is parlaying all the brains at U of C to write his Reform Articles of Confederation.

The Media love this smarmy opportunist. Heep ( Quigley) has the Reader's Ben Javorsky and his Buddies from the U of C as well as media pals like Brown feeding his Napoleonic Hoop Dreams. What's with that Bonaparte comb-down?

The thing is Quigley has his fiefdom of beachhead Progressives which will give him a political day job, but beyond that voters know Quigley as the Uriah Heep of Politicallife - going back to his 'reform' work as Bernie Hanson's rat-catcher.

Mr. Hickey,

You bring up the age old question: Given that a political player is disagreeable in any number of ways, should he be considered on other issues where his opinions seem reasonable?

For now, I am going to prioritize, TIF's stink, and breed corruption. I don't care if the allies needed to squash them are from the anti-saloon league for now, as long as they stand up against TIFs.

I think this is a big tent issue, and encourage Mike Quigley to take similarly a thoughtful stance on other issues.

The Bigger the Tent the more clowns and Quigley gets top billing.

Mr. Quigley gets a pass from a very complicit media.

He had his reform package, tucked under his grabby little arms at every elevator opening at the County Building, prepared for him by the students and staff at University of Chicago - a ready made pipeline to a very complicit and lazy media.

Quigley has scratched out the assistance willing columnists to help script his spiel. No problem -every elected official courts reporters and some jump into their laps. Neil Steinberg and Phil Kadner are exceptions.

No one one in the media is taking a careful look at Our Uriah Heep's history and track record. There is plenty from the golden age of Progressive Chicago ( Harold Washington Years '83-'87) when the Lakefront was booming with real estate developers. But that's history and Mike Quigley was right there when hi$tory was being made.

TIFs have improved the economic and vitality of the Auburn Gresham community.

TIFs has become a touchstone for the Cliffs Notes Readers who glean news exclusively from the Chicago Reader.

TIFs have been Quigley's entree into the Big Top, when his usual modus operandi -backstabbing & etc. could only get him on the booster chairs at the Big Tables.

Ben Javorsky has been scripting Quigley since last year.

I am just a guy who reads the newspapers - alot of them.
