Parsing the Tribune for Political Analysis

Chicago Daily Observer 2 March 2009 One Comment

Jim Bowman is always excellent at Blithe Spirit Blog chastising the LA Time/Chicago Tribune for reproducing White House PR as editorial copy

“That’s the politics of it.  I do not expect Maura and Chi Trib or LA Times to buy into that version.  I do expect them to do more than provide for us hard-copy breakfast-table readers an almost entirely White House version. ”

Then Jim turns around and gives the Tribune some applause for accurately stating the Earmarks in Obama’s budget, then critiquing the writer for pooh-poohing facts inconvenient to the White House

“Nicely done, putting data up front, a fairly classic noosepaper lede.  But feeling the need to take the sting out of it, the writer — LA Times man Peter Nicholas, of the Tribco Washington Bureau — excuses Obama”

It’s been a long time since there was any reason other than John Kass to buy the Tribune – or “Chicago Today” as I have thought of it since it changed its layout.
