Who Says Illinois is Broke? $13 Million to Demolish Tollway Oasis

The first steps to tearing down the Des Plaines Oasis on the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) will begin this spring.

The tollway recently announced a $4.1 million contract with F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen & Associates LLC of Chicago for the oasis demolition. The project is among $81.6 million worth of work approved for 2014 as part of the tollway’s 15-year, $12 billion capital program.

The tollway agency will pay oasis operator SFI Chicago Tollway LLC $9.3 million to terminate a 25-year-lease on the site.

Let’s see, who was rennovating those Oases only 10 years ago or so…ah yes, the usual suspects
