We Dedicate this Syndication to those Indigenous Peoples Who Were Displaced or Obliterated to Build Evanston and Northwestern

Top administrators at Northwestern University convened a panel discussion earlier this month to address a recent incident of racial harassment on campus.

A student named Tonantzin Carmona was walking home when several intoxicated female students jeeringly said to her, “What, no hablas ingles?” Since then, members of the university community have organized several events aimed at making the campus more tolerant and culturally sensitive. University President Morton Schapiro was present at this most recent panel on February 12th.

The event was introduced by John Marquez, an assistant professor of African American and Latino Studies. He began by dedicating his comments “to those indigenous peoples who were displaced or obliterated to build Evanston and Northwestern.”

“I hope their ghosts haunt us,” he said.

Them NU Ghosteses don’t ‘Hablo No Ingles’ Too, there Einstein.

How do you say, “really challenged” in Evanston?

“More tolerant and culturally sensitive” the touchstone a mental deficiency and systemically apartheidable.

All this because some drunk girls were yelling at an hispanic girl? Seems like there’s a bigger drunk girl problem on campus rather than a cultural competency problem at NU.

The value of a degree from Northwestern keeps going down and down every day.

A handful of drunken students behave rudely and this is news? A few people reflect shame upon an entire community and an entire university?

This is probably the stupidest controversy since the Lerner community newspapers carried a weekly column by the card carrying uberliberal Robert Lerner. On one occasion, observing a few black golfers playing on a public golf course on an overcast and rainy day, Lerner launched into an unsubstantiated rant that this was proof positive of societal racism. The minority golfers could only play when there was a cloudburst because they were unloved and unwanted. The fact that the men wanted to play or that their greens fees were nonrefundable after playing so many holes never entered into the article. On occasion, I have golfed in the rain, so where can I file a grievance?

Liberals can argue about anything because they are not concerned with the facts. I never liked dining in Denny’s restaurants and thought the service was politely mediocre at best, but I never sought to file a class action lawsuit seeking millions in damages for unspecified pain and suffering for enduring such fast food indignities either.

If all the drinking on campus is what causes things like this, why don’t the geniuses at NU just propose returning control of Evanston to the Women’s Christian Temperance Union!
