Can the Tax Rally, June 27

Please save the date for the Can the Tax campaign’s rally to be held on Tuesday, June 27th, at the James R. Thompson Center’s outdoor plaza (100 W Randolph St.) from 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM. Attendees are asked to arrive no later than 10:15 AM.

The rally will bring together coalition partners to highlight the sizable amount of opposition to the beverage tax and call on the Cook County board to repeal the beverage tax before it negatively affects Cook County businesses and working families on July 1st.

    Teamsters rep correct. “Soda” tax will adversely impact sales, delivery driver jobs in Cook County. Small business owners who spoke at rally feared revenue loss to out of county shopping. Complexity of tax also an issue for them. Cook County’s defense of tax’s “health benefits” is pure fraud. SNAP shopper purchases remain free from the soda tax. And, it’s alleged positive health impact. It’s all about generating revenue to feed the Machine.
