Since becoming Governor following the worst financial collapse since The Great Depression, Governor Quinn has implemented a plan that has put Illinois back on the road to recovery. By incentivizing private-sector investment in Illinois, and signing into law the first comprehensive infrastructure plan in Illinois in 10 years, Governor Quinn has made jobs the focus of his administration.

He signed Illinois first jobs bill in a decade. The Illinois Jobs Now! capital plan will create 439,000 jobs, while improving our state’s aging infrastructure, making it safer for everyone on our roads.

Governor Quinn successfully secured investment packages that lured Ford, Astellas Pharma, UPS, and many other companies to stay, expand, or move to Illinois. And the benefits are tangible. For example, thanks to Governor Quinn’s action, the new fuel-efficient Ford Explorer is being built exclusively in Illinois, creating 1200 new jobs.

The Governor has also invested in small business. He spearheaded and signed $2500 targeted tax credits for small businesses, the backbone of our economy. As a result, small companies have been able to grow and add employees.

As a result of Governor Quinn’s targeted tax credits and the hundreds of investment packages put together by his administration, Illinois is leading the Midwest in job creation in 2010.  We’ve gained 60,000 new jobs this year, nearly 10% of the nation’s job growth this year.

Governor Quinn knows how to make hard choices and cut unneeded spending in our budget, putting Illinois on a better course for the future, while protecting essential programs like education, healthcare and public safety. He also recently signed a far-reaching pension reform into law, which will save Illinois more than $200 billion over 35 years, while stabilizing the pension system. This effort will save money, and bring greater fiscal responsibility and accountability to Illinois.

Governor Quinn understands that it is important to strike a balance: cutting state spending where we can, while continuing to invest in jobs, education, and training to prepare Illinois’ workforce for the future. Pat Quinn has a proven record of job creation and leadership on economic issues, and will continue to keep Illinois on the road to recovery.
