Rep. Schakowsky on Tax Protests: Despicable and Shameful

Jan Schakowsky 16 April 2009 6 Comments

The ‘tea parties’ being held today by groups of right-wing activists, and fueled by FOX News Channel, are an effort to mislead the public about the Obama economic plan that cuts taxes for 95 percent of Americans and creates 3.5 million jobs. It’s despicable that right-wing Republicans would attempt to cheapen a significant, honorable moment of American history with a shameful political stunt. Not a single American household or business will be taxed at a higher rate this year. Made to look like a grassroots uprising, this is an Obama bashing party promoted by corporate interests, as well as Republican lobbyists and politicians

“Illinois Review” has posted a funny video clip of Daffy Duck accusing others of being “despicable” just like Jan Schakowsky.

Jan has still never apologized for her husband’s prison sentence for kiting checks from a political action committee account.

I didn’t see any right wing activists, I saw American citizens exercising their right to protest. I saw people protesting the spending of our taxes in ways which we have no say and with none of the promised transparency. Also, if you think that it is honorable to spend trillions of dollars with little or no oversight and create deficits never seen before in history, you’re even more out of of touch then your comments above indicate. That won’t be forgotten at the polls.

PS: I didn’t see any corporate interests either, they were too busy contributing to the campaigns of crooked, despicable politicians so they pass spending bills they don’t read.

YEAH…THIS YEAR taxes will not be raised. But do the math and we all know that someday very soon we will be facing higher taxes or the country will be bankrupt…which is what it basically is anyway. I attended a tea party and I did so because of that fact and the fact that our politicians are doing anything and everything to HIDE what is going on in our government now. Obama is only using transparency when it comes to Bush’s terms. Who is to say that when we We are middle to lower middle income family and the extra $10 in our paycheck will be put aside as I am sure we will be required to pay it back next year, and then some.

STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON’T HAVE…or maybe this is money stolen from the people by Jans husband.

    Mike P,

I (an American of Asian descent) saw what you saw at the Federal Center. What\’s more, the couple standing in from of me were from East Africa and the man standing to my right was a Polish contractor; all three were naturalized Americans. We\’re all just mad as heck that politicians are spending our money like drunken sailors; actually worse than that (with apologies to sailors everywhere).
