Kirk Dillard Calls for Banning Illinois State Funding for ACORN

John Powers 19 September 2009 One Comment

Illinois State Senator Kirk Dillard, Republican gubernatorial candidate, today called on Governor Quinn to issue an immediate Executive Order banning state funds to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Recent news accounts show ACORN employees illegally misusing state tax dollars:

“Governor Quinn should issue an immediate Executive Order to ban state funds to ACORN until the Illinois Attorney General has conducted a full investigation on all ACORN practices.

“We should not be spending tax dollars to fund an organization like ACORN which continues to violate the public’s trust at a time when our state is in a budget crisis” said Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate Kirk Dillard, R-Hinsdale in a press release.

Separately State Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Highland, and Sens. Dave Luechtefeld, R-Okawville, and Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, also called for the suspension of all state funding and contracts for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also known as ACORN.

Democratic Illinois Senators Dick Durbin, Roland Burris and Democratic US Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Jesse Jackson Jr. , Danny Davis,  and Bobby Rush voted to continue supporting ACORN with Federal Funds this week.

It is a total disservice to the families of Illinois college students that ACORN should be receiving any state funds while the Monetary Award Program (MAP) has been suspended for the 2009-2010 school year. Please address this issue. Thank you Debra Bradley
