Giannoulias Chief of Staff Kelly to face Reform Minded Republican McKinley in 2nd CD

Chicago Tribune 27 February 2013 4 Comments

Robin Kelly, former Chief of Staff to failed bank owner Alexi Giannoulias, has continued the Democrat tradition of putting dicier members of the dicey Chicago political establishment in the 2nd Congressional District.

Former state Rep. Robin Kelly easily won the special Democratic primary Tuesday night in the race to replace the disgraced Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress, helped by millions of dollars in pro-gun control ads from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s political fund.

A snowstorm and lack of voter interest kept turnout low as Kelly had 52 percent to 25 percent for former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson and 11 percent for Chicago 9th Ward Ald. Anthony Beale with 99 percent of precincts counted.

The N.R.A. must be sorely disappointed since Robin Kelly declared the organization to be defunct after her electoral landslide in which a miniscule number of voters actually took part.

  • Jim Ridings said:

The Republican candidate, Paul McKinley, spent 20 years behind bars for armed robbery, burglary and other felonies. I suggest he run for governor instead.

I did point out on this very site that McKinley would win the GOP primary and bring some excitement to the race. These Democrats have no idea the can of wup-ass they opened. if only some of the GOP donors know what they have in Paul the race could be competitive and give the GOP the best chance of winning an inner city congressional race they have had in generations! Paul is from the hard streets of that district Kelly is from Monee. She might as well be Halverson; what does she know about the inner city and the problems they face? Kelly will try to hide and ride the storm out but McKinley is good at getting people out to protest and asking questions that the Democrats would rather not be asked. Issues like gun control, or illegal immigration, or gay marriage and adoption, unemployment and shootings. He can use your help go to his website, or facebook him. His first fundraiser will be in a week or two watch here for details
