Excusing Anita Alvarez: “It Has Been Exciting to See This Office Finally Open to a Female Hispanic”
Even Eric Zorn is having his doubts about Anita Alvarez after her exposure on 60 Minutes last night
Just days after Alvarez was embarrassed by the grand jury indictment in the Koschmann case comes this fresh evidence that she’s not up to her job. She just doesn’t know what happened? And this is the woman we expect to represent the interests of justice in Cook County?
Watch the entire segment below and prepare to be dismayed:
While Tribune commenter “Tribune” accurately sums up the current position of the Democratic Party
I’m conflicted on this…
First, is this really a big deal? The Tribune has endorsed Alvarez at every turn. Surely if she was in over her head, the Tribune wouldn’t have endorsed her in the last election?
Second, I don’t know how I feel about an extremist Republican holding this office. Do we really want the party that is against the rights of women, minorities, and homosexuals running the State’s attorney office? It think it is naive to think that is possible in modern day Chicago, and quite frankly, the though of it makes me very queasy. And it has been exciting to see this office finally open to a female hispanic.
I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and allow her some more time to grow into the office.

Bernard Carey and Jack O’Malley were hardly extremist Republican prosecutors.
Anita Alvarez did a commendable job with the 60 Minutes advocate. She held her ground and stated the case.
Ms. Alvarez fell afoul of the Medill/NorthwesternLaw/Lawsuit-Lotto Lawyer complex when she out-ed Chicago’s Fagin – David Protess – for the hypocrite-corner cutting phony that he is; causing Northwestern to deep-six him after years allowing The Wrongful Everything Gang to burnish the university’s reputation as Progressive Dreamworks and Hogwarts Illinois
Hogwarts Illinois… I like that Pat. But are the students tough enough to play that game riding broomsticks chasing that little winged-ball? I think not.
In Zorn’s world, there are only two choices: an Hispanic incompetent or a Republican bigot.
Finally Anita Alvarez practices are brought to light. The public first got a taste of her stubbornness in her adamant enforcement of the controversial eavesdropping law. Albeit the Seventh Circuit Ruling and the setbacks she had regarding that law, she’s still appealing the Melongo’s case at the Illinois Supreme Court! (No. 114852)
