Endorsed! Joan Lassonde Picked in 9th Over Longtime Incumbent

We’ve endorsed Schakowsky previously while lamenting the lack of a legitimate challenger who sees our federal debt crisis as a drag on economic growth. This year there is such a Republican on the ballot: Joan McCarthy Lasonde, a marketing executive from Wilmette. “We’re taxing small businesses to death,” she says, citing as an example a local salon owner who won’t hire a 50th full-time employee because that’s when Obamacare mandates kick in.


Some of what Lasonde has learned about bureaucratic failings comes from being a foster parent who confronts the incompetence and ineffectiveness of the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services. “Government is too big and not flexible,” she tells us. “We need to help our own.” We like Lasonde’s energy and focus. She gets our endorsement.
