A Short History of the Obama Campaign Against Education

Chicago Daily Observer 11 September 2012 2 Comments

Just in case you missed it, the Chicago Teacher’s Union are on strike.

President Obama has been a foe of education reform, since his days of thwarting reform via his chairmanship of the Annenberg Challenge, where he proceeded to waste $387 Million dollars that could have been spent helping students get and education in Chicago.

In his role against education, Obama has been a leader in attacking parental choice in education, consistently siding with entrenched unions and failed institutions against parents, taxpayers and students.  Since being elected President, Barack Obama, along with Sen. Dick Durbin and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, have battled against public education in private schools in Washington DC.

President Obama’s two children attend private school at Sidwell Friends, which has a tuition of $32,069.  Formerly Obama Chief of Staff, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s children attend University of Chicago Lab Schools, also a private school, with a tuition of approximately $25,000 per year.

An Obama spokesman has claimed that “President Obama’s leadership has led to groundbreaking reforms in our schools, earning wide bipartisan cooperation and praise”

Another view from John Curry of the 32 Ward Republicans

This Strike is a perfect example of what happens when Democrats, in the Chicago Way, take control of both government and the unions. Each side in this strike is controlled by Democrats, all avid supporters of Obama. Instead of working together in the best interests of kids in school, these factions fight over how much more of the tax payers’ dollars will wind up in their pockets. The union leadership and Chicago politicians, Democrats all, get fatter, and the kids and people of Chicago suffer more. I can’t think of a better template for another four years of Obama in the White House than battle over money at the expense of kids in Obama’s Democratic hometown

Chicago has the highest paid teachers in the country – turned down a 16% raise – not even half of the students graduate and they are on strike -fire them all – give the students a chance at an education.
