Anyone with a Calculator?

It may be possible to prevent a recession with the use of hand calculator. Or at least to check the arithmetic of our leading economic minds conjuring up a recession (despite most signs to the contrary).

From The Economist:

“The recent rise in corporate bankruptcies in America may well be a sign of much worse to come”

Further down The bankruptcy rate is at 1.28% up from a record low of 0.87% in November 2007. The bankruptcy rate in 1991 was 11%; In 2001 it also hit 11%.

“But most forecasters expect it to rise sharply over the coming months” the Economist reassures us, perhaps even rising above 1/10 of the number of bankruptcies in the previous recession.

The New York Times tells us:

“the number of Americans receiving food stamps is projected to reach 28 million in the coming year, the highest level since the aid program began in ... Read More...

Brady to run for governor in 2010

State Senator Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, told a roomful of people in Macomb Saturday that he will seek his party’s nomination for governor in 2010.

Brady was guest speaker at the McDonough County Republican Central Committee Lincoln Day Dinner, held on the campus of Western Illinois University and including guests from four surrounding counties.

Brady ran for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2006 and was defeated in the party primary by State Treasurer Judy Barr Topinka

Hillary’s Scorched Earth Policy Threatens Obama

Hillary Clinton is not going to go quietly into that good night.

Although she is being called up to step aside in the interest of party unity, I fully expect Clinton to soldier on until the Democrats assemble in Denver for their party’s national convention. Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean may not like it, but where is it written that nominating conventions must be as predictable as a homecoming high school pep rally? There was a time in America’s political history where convention delegates actually did bargain and confer with each other and select their party’s nominees after multiple ballots were cast. Now, the pundits and network television expect the conventions to serve as coronation ceremonies for the presumptive nominees. The issue must be decided on the first ballot if one follows this script.

For weeks and weeks, Obama’s campaign has been urging us to believe that Clinton’s candidacy was ... Read More...

Who's Scrubbing the Trinity United Church of Christ Website?

The website for Sen. Barack Obama’s church—Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago—not long ago described the “Black Value System” in the “About Us” section of its website.

And it used to provide a link to the Trumpet Magazine that once gave an award to Louis Farrakhan—a magazine published by Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s daughter.

No longer.

You can see the old webpage, including both the Black Value System and a link to Trumpet HERE

Interestingly, Trumpet used to have a web presence and now it doesn’t seem to.

Here’s the Google cache of the Trumpet Magazine heralding Louis Farrakhan (“When Minister Farrakhan speaks, Black America listens,” says the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, likening the Minister’s influence to the E. F. Hutton commercials of old. “Everybody may not agree with him, but they listen…Minister Farrakhan will be remembered as one of the 20th and 21st century giants of the African ... Read More...
