Dodd: Acts, not words

Chris Dodd looks so much like a president he ought to be one.

The five-term senator from Connecticut just took the best action of any of the candidates in the course of the campaign. While others were merely “presenting” programs, Dodd stood up in the senate itself and blocked Bush’s Military Commissions Act, which gives “retroactive immunity” to all the telecom companies that participated in Bush’s illegal spying on and wiretapping ordinary American citizens.

The legislation was supported by a bunch of spineless Democrats headed by Jay Rockefeller and apparently Majority Leader Harry Reid. But senate tradition permits any single senator to take a bill off the table until his or her questions are resolved. Dodd did.

His official statement summed it up telegraphically: “Warrantless wiretapping. Shredding of Habeas Corpus. Torture. Extraordinary Rendition. Secret Prisons. No more.”

He actually pledged personally to filibuster against this trashing of the Constitution.

The Ugly Islamo-Fascist Face of Obsession at DePaul

The DePaul Conservative Alliance last week sponsored a showing of “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West”, followed by a discussion at the DePaul University Student Center—but the importance to all of us continues to dominate.

. The event, was part of “Terrorism Awareness Week”, a series of lectures, seminars and films taking place on college campuses throughout the country. It was organized by David Hororwitz and the Center for the Study of Popular Culture to draw attention to the Radical Islamists’ intention to destroy western civilization.

“Obsession” presents a series of interviews with ex-terrorists, scenes of the carnage that results from terrorists bombing, interviews with experts on Islam and the Middle East, newsreels of Islamic leaders being entertained by Hitler, Islamic boys carrying guns, all testifying to Radical Islam’s hatred of and desire to destroy the West. I found it quite disturbing.

But the Islamists and their liberal allies ... Read More...

Ald. Flores Willing to Negotiate Freedom of The Press

After pretty much exhausting the subject of Free Newspaper
Distribution Wednesday with a rousing session on Bruno Behrend’s
Extreme Wisdom on AM1120 discussing the Chicago Ban, syndicating a few
articles and answering emails to follow up on the story, I was pleased
to see that WTTW Chicago Tonight, and Phil Ponce also thought Freedom
of the Press to be a worthy topic for discussion for a civic affairs
program.

Alderman Manny Flores who was one of the co-authors of the ban, Ordinance 10–8-272,
and Ron Roenigk, publisher of the free publications Inside and Inside
Lincoln Park appeared to cheerfully disagree about the Ordinance,
while Phil Ponce lobbed happy questions about how this can be settled
in a way that both parties are happy. Mr. Roenigk rightly noted that
he would not be happy until the ordinance was completely ... Read More...
