A former federal judge, Hasting was impeached and removed from office for bribery and perjury after accepting $150,000.00 in return for a lenient sentence. Following his removal from judicial office, Hastings was elected to Congress (the US Senate conveniently forgot to bar him from seeking federal office again). Nancy Pelosi has Hastings serving as a Senior Whip and a member of the Rules Committee. How would Joe Walsh's economic woes and foibles would lower the integrity of an august legislative body that includes Hastings? Walsh's loss a condominium unit through a mortgage foreclosure seems to pale in comparison. So many reporters I have known on newspapers were comic book nerds, people who thought Star Trek is real. And they fantasized about being super heroes, in disguise like reporter Clark Kent -- super heroes who would save the world, even against its will. They are the Boy Scouts who help you across the street, even if you aren't going that way. Your failure to see their superiority only is an indication of how ignorant you are. Inventing comic book worlds is their whole world. It is what liberalism is built upon. Why should it surprise anyone that a reporter also is a comic book writer?
