Absenteeism: Any Numbers?

Chicago Daily Observer 20 July 2009 One Comment

The Chicago Sun-Times has a decent article on absenteeism in the Street and Sanitation department, with at least one rather striking quote:

“Thirty percent of my laborer work force doesn’t come to work. It’s either [on] duty-disability, restricted duty [or] absent no pay,” from a former manager at Streets and San.

Just in casual conversation, nothing scientific here, numbers are bandied about like a 40% absentee rate gets you written up with Metra.  Twenty Eight Percent absenteeism is thought to be pretty good at the CTA.  But there is a lack of easily accessible information on employee absenteeism among City and State workers.

How about it loyal readers?  What do you think absentee rates are?  Are these numbers posted somewhere?  Are they tracked?
