The latest salvo in the minimum wage wars is a gimmick cooked up by the progressives at Americans United for Change called “Living the Wage.” The group, which is pushing Congress to increase the federal minimum wage to $10.10, challenged policymakers to try and live for one week on just $77, which is what they claim a current full-time minimum wage earner has left over after paying for housing and taxes (more on that in a bit).

It appears the group could only find three takers, all Democrats: Reps. Jan Schakowsky …

Thanks to House Republicans, Americans finally got to hear from the State Department officials the Obama administration never wanted to testify. They are now called “whistleblowers,” but that’s only because their accounts of what really happened in Libya on Sept. 11, 2012, were buried by the administration, apparently in the furtherance of Democrats’ election-year imperatives.
Soon after the testimony, Democratic office-holders took to the airwaves and the internet to assure liberal loyalists that there was nothing really “new” here. Republicans, by contrast, trumpeted the accounts of Gregory Hicks, Eric Nordstrom, and …

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice is under fire for going on several Sunday talk shows five days after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and providing apparently erroneous information to the public. But President Obama’s own public statements about Benghazi, made in three separate nationally televised interviews in the days after Rice’s appearances, were equally misleading and have received scarcely any attention.

In defending Rice from criticism from an array of Republicans, including Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, Obama said at a November 15 press conference, “If Sen. McCain …

Mr. President, please come to Chicago.
In Washington on Wednesday, as you rolled out a slate of gun control measures quickly cobbled together in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, you said, “If there is even one thing we can do to reduce this violence, if there is even one life that can be saved, then we’ve got an obligation to try.”

If you believe those words, Mr. President, here is a heartfelt suggestion: Come back to your adopted hometown and personally host a summit that grapples seriously with the causes …

Despite the dire fiscal challenges facing America, our elected leaders in Washington, D.C., particularly President Obama and the most influential congressional Democrats, apparently don’t believe there’s a problem. When it comes to the country’s deficit and debt, they appear to be living on another planet.

How else to explain the statement recently attributed to Obama by House Speaker John Boehner, uttered during the most recent round of negotiations on the “fiscal cliff”?
“At one point several weeks ago, the president said to me, ‘We don’t have a spending problem.’ ” Boehner told …

Mitt Romney is getting a taste of the Chicago Way. It remains to be seen just how effective these attacks have been, though some, like Joe Klein, believe the presumptive GOP nominee has been crippled by them, while RCP political analyst Sean Trende — and others — point out that despite the onslaught the race remains as close as it’s ever been. Still, it’s become clear that Obama and his team are willing to do or say whatever is necessary to try and make this election a choice between the two …

Every White House complains about its press coverage. A contentious relationship between the Executive Branch and a free and independent media is part of America’s DNA. Always has been.
But this White House seems to feel they’re different. It’s not just that the current occupant of the Oval Office has a particularly thin skin when it comes to criticism – which is especially ironic given that he’s been the recipient of more glowing press coverage than possibly any candidate or president in modern American history. But not since Nixon conjured up …

Readers of the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post woke up this morning to see front page stories on the news that the Congressional Budget Office produced a rather damning report on the Democrats’ health care plan. Here’s how the two papers treated the story:
Washington Post: Lawmakers Warned About Health Costs

Wall Street Journal: Budget Blow for Health Plan
Readers of the New York Times, however, wouldn’t have any clue about the CBO report by looking at the paper’s front page:

The CBO report is mentioned today’s New York Times – but …

From Real Clear Politics

“Go back to your trailer park with the rest of the bigots and the self-defeating!!!”
For the record, I called Obama’s speech “quite good and well delivered,” a “home run” and a “very good speech” but also observed that it fell short of being one of the greats of all time. Apparently, offering even the slightest criticism of Obama now makes one trailer trash and a bigot. Welcome to the era of Change.
