As we approach next week’s Democratic debates, recent polling shows that despite Joe Biden’s consistent double-digit lead, a majority of Democratic voters prefers a clear-cut progressive rather than a mainstream, institutional liberal candidate as personified by the former veep.

Virtually all the national and state polls show that when you add the numbers for the three outspoken progressives–Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris–they top Biden’s leading number. Add in Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s numbers plus Senator Cory Booker’s and it’s overwhelming, even though Pete is running mainly on generational …

James Thompson, governor of Illinois from 1977 to 1991, and his wife, Jayne, last week sold a condo not only for less than they paid for it in 2008, but for less than the prior owners paid for it in May 2000.

“It’s a different market now,” the former governor told Crain’s. He added that the finishes in the condo have not been updated since the building was new, in 2000. Together, the slow current real estate market and the need for updating “account for the price,” he said.

We had 52 shot, 10 dead, two weekends ago, and 41 shot, 7 killed, the weekend before that. And it hasn’t let up. So no, Chicagoans don’t care much for Oprah or Colbert elbow-rubbing right now.

The man from Old Blighty (say “Hunnick”) learning a new word: Not long ago, we had a Swedish schoolgirl explaining to us, in very stylish English, about Climate Change. From the Evanston Patch

The former mansion of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and First Lady MK Pritzker returned to the market Sunday in north Evanston with an asking price of $2.7 million amid ongoing foreclosure proceedings on the property.

The governor and his wife purchased the property for $1.025 million in 1993, selling it for $4.1 million in 2007 — the same year they bought the second of their two contiguous mansions on Astor Place in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. That home’s toilet-related property tax breaks reportedly remain under federal investigation.
