The Washington Times reports:

New York will continue to provide some illegal immigrant “Dreamers” with access to government-run Medicaid insurance no matter what happens in Washington, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

There are 42,000 people living in New York who are currently protected by the Obama-era DACA deportation amnesty, which makes them eligible for Medicaid in the state. Mr. Cuomo said given the uncertainty over the program in Washington, he wanted to guarantee the migrants health coverage.

“The federal government’s failure to take action to protect DACA recipients is appalling, un-American, unjust and puts hundreds of thousands of children at risk. Here in New York we will do everything in our power to protect DACA recipients and ensure they receive health care,” Mr. Cuomo said.

State taxpayers bear all costs for the coverage because federal law prohibits federal taxpayers from paying for illegal immigrants.

Let’s take a shut-down breather to check out the eternal question, will Rahm Emanuel be re-elected mayor? Though the city election is only a year away, a prospective scenario is shaping up.
Emanuel is almost certain to run. He’s out there regularly announcing “new” programs–and, as usual, announcing their immediate success. He’s pushing hard to land the jobs-rich Amazon headquarters and the recently announced Apple “campus.” Chicago is one of  Amazon’s20 “finalist” cities.

He’s working especially hard in the African American communities where he is considered vulnerable because of his presumed role in …

Big Government reports:

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) accused Democrats on Monday of caring more about same-sex marriage than Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and Latinos after Democrats caved to end the three-day government shutdown.

Gutierrez blasted Democrats for acquiescing to a three-week spending bill in exchange for a DACA vote, adding that he did not see “how a vague promise from the Senate Majority Leader about a vague policy to be voted on in the future helps the Dreamers or maximizes leverage the Democrats and American people have over the Republicans right now.”

“If the Republicans said we are ending same-sex marriage, but we promise Democrats a vote later; or we approve of oil drilling in every national park, but you’ll have a vote later – do you think the Democrats would say yes?,” Gutierrez asked. “This shows me that when it comes to immigrants, Latinos and their families, Democrats are still not willing to go to the mat to allow people in my community to live in our country legally.”

Gutierrez said the three-week spending bill “simply kicks the can down the road with no assurance that we will protect Dreamers from deportation or fight Republican attempts to curtail or eliminate legal immigration.”
