A fundraising concert benefitting gubernatorial candidate Daniel Biss and running mate Litesa Wallace is set for Saturday in Rockford. Some of the social publicity around the event, however, didn’t quite align with Biss’ professorial disposition.
On Thursday, a performer with the Twitter handle @Rio_ballout, tweeted: “Slide 2 my 1st show if u rlly f$&# wimme it’s in the burbs so yea oh ya its for our next governor Daniel Biss.”
That Tweet, which included this poster was taken down hours later.

Almost overlooked in Donald Trump’s assaults last week on Obamacare and the Iran nuclear deal was his moronic assault on the First Amendment–you know, the one that guarantees freedom of speech. The man was idiotic enough to suggest challenging the licenses of NBC and networks he accuses of “fake news.”
Where do we begin? With the fact that networks are not licensed, therefore can’t be challenged? Was this total ignorance of the law or just bluster for “the base”?

The print media need no licenses but individual TV and radio stations do. …

Next week, government statisticians will release the first estimate for third quarter real GDP growth. In spite of hurricanes, and continued negativity by conventional wisdom, we expect 2.8% growth.

If we’re right about the third quarter, real GDP will be up 2.2% from a year ago, which is exactly equal to the growth rate since the beginning of this recovery back in 2009. Looking at these four-quarter or eight-year growth rates, many people argue that the economy is still stuck in the mud.
But, we think looking in the rearview mirror misses …
