For progressives in Illinois the defeat of GOP Governor Bruce Rauner ranks almost as high as getting rid of Donald Trump. This governor is probably more genuinely mean-spirited than Trump and arguably has done proportionally  more damage–especially to our most vulnerable citizens.

“Big pensions just tiny part of big pension mess” — that was the headline on a Better Government Association story widely republished across Illinois last week.

 
That’s an interesting if academic topic, but don’t look to that BGA article for any answers. It contained four whopping errors

Nearly half of the campaign expenditures made by Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez (Ill.) during the first quarter of 2017 went to his wife, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
Soraida Gutierrez, Rep. Gutierrez’s wife, who was a registered lobbyist in the state of Illinois from 2003 to 2009, has been on the payroll of Gutierrez for Congress, the congressman’s campaign committee, since 2010. She has been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars since first appearing on the payroll.
