Well, now another group is exercising their right to remain silent, the Chicago media, this time over the brutal murder of a 76-year-old man on the far south side.
The man’s name was Claude Cannon.  According to news reports, he was shot numerous times in his home, gunned down, just like Emanuel Lazar was more than five decades ago.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Mich. represents a serious failure of government there and she’s asking residents, businesses and organizations to contribute to the United Way of Genesee County’s “Flint Water Fund.”
The city is donating $5,000 to the “Flint Water Fund” and in an online campaign is asking others to make a donation.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

A nostalgic President Barack Obama returns to Springfield next month, nine years to the day after he officially launched his White House campaign on the steps of the Old State Capitol, as rivals Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders compete to duplicate his historic Iowa caucus victory on Monday.

I was en route to a Hillary Clinton get-out-the-caucus vote rally here on Friday when the White House announced Obama will deliver an address to the Illinois General Assembly where he once served as a state senator from the South Side of Chicago.

“Now, in the final year of his second term, the President looks forward to addressing the Illinois General Assembly on February 10th about what we can do, together, to build a better politics – one that reflects our better selves,” the White House said in a statement.

How ironic, a failed President returns to his home state where they are operating without a budget.

As of this week, Illinois has fewer drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, less home care for senior citizens and housing for youth in need, fewer re-entry programs for ex-prisoners, mental health counseling services and assistance for veterans.
Those are just some of cuts made by the state’s largest social service provider due to the state budget impasse.
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois announced it was slashing 750 jobs and suspending 30 programs because the state has not reimbursed the agency for $6 million in services already delivered.
