Back in November 2009 I reported in this column that both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and our then-Middle east negotiator George Mitchell were quoted to the effect that a Palestinian state should be created based on Israel’s 1967 borders, obviously with land tradeoffs to incorporate some Israeli West Bank settlements and to establish more defensible areas for Israel.

I can still remember waiting in the lobby of what was the Chicago Athletic Club on Michigan Avenue to be interviewed by Thomas F. Roeser for a 2006 piece in the Wanderer. As a student, I had begun a campaign to help encourage a better commitment to Catholic identity at the Nation’s largest Catholic University, DePaul.
