Last week the F.B.I. targeted terror suspects in Illinois and Minnesota. In Illinois one of the suspects was a Wright College teacher and the other an SEIU leader.

Joseph Iosbbaker is an SEIU Leader. The sheepish Chicago Media went weak in the knees when Mr. Iosbaker and SEIU used the closing of the Republic Windows factory several years ago as a forum for disgraced Governor Blagojevich. Now,  Iosbaker is being investigated in a terrorist plot.
The Chicago media is following the lead of what they are told and tasked. SEIU is disappearing …

A grouchy Steve Rhodes doesn’t much like Pat Quinn or Bill Brady,
common sense and humane priorities would be a welcome antidote to the Pat Quinns and Bill Bradys of the world
woes Steve in his sorrowful screed.  So if we are sensible and humane, we don’t vote for Quinn or Brady or something as the stawman squares off in the ring.  The voters certainly had some degree of sense and humanity and elected Rod Blagojevich by a landslide.  There must be more to these election things.

Nor does Steve like Greg Hinz, …

Politics is Chicago’s Blood Sport and no one draws blood like a Progressive. Once upon a time, Alderman Bernie Hansen’s bag-man and rat-catcher Mike Quigley wanted to be a Cook County Commissioner so bad that he’d beat up a little girl who owned a bridal shop. Mike Quigley had run against Helen Shiller for Alderman of the 46th Ward and required the aid of Ward and precinct foot soldiers from the bad old Machine and the diminutive carpet bagging opportunist was soundly defeated by Shiller who garnered 53% of …

Some sanity from Chris Kennedy coming out against an Emeritus status for Bill Ayers
I intend to vote against conferring the honorific title of our university to a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father, Robert F. Kennedy.
There is nothing more antithetical to the hopes for a university that is lively and yet civil, or to the hopes of our founding fathers for their great experiment of a self-governing people, than to permanently seal off debate with one’s opponents by …

In the spring of 2009 (as the Panic of 2008 was subsiding), the consensus forecast a “new normal” real GDP growth rate of 2% or less in the second half of 2009 and first half of 2010. We were forecasting 4%. As it turns out, our optimism caused us to overshoot by exactly the same amount as the consensus’s pessimism undershot – real GDP actually expanded by 3%.

Fast forward to mid-2010 and the consensus is still forecasting 2% real GDP growth, with some of the “double dip” crowd …

The other night when I was watching Glenn Beck hopping with excitement about something a Founder wrote in 1772 I thought: Who does this guy remind me of? And it instantly came to me: Jack Kemp! Both Kemp and Beck came late to ideas. Kemp whom I knew very well and campaigned for…first for president against George H. W. Bush…and next for vice president when he was yoked with Bob Dole…had firecracker enthusiasm about the nature of capitalism. Dole who seemingly was born bored picked Kemp …

How low will a politician sink in order to hold onto an office?
For the modern liberal Democrat, there is no depth too low.

Take Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson, for example. Her TV ad does not portray any of her own accomplishments (she has none) but only attacks her opponent. And she has to lie to do that.
Her opponent is Adam Kinzinger. Her TV ad has a series of unnamed citizens talking about losing their jobs, and blaming Kinzinger for shipping jobs overseas. It is no matter that Kinzinger is not in office …

Rahm Emanuel is nothing if not ambitious. Chicagoans need to ask themselves if that is reason enough to support Emanuel’s projected mayoral candidacy? Does the fact that Emanuel has never served in an executive capacity as an elected official warrant any voter scrutiny?

Inside the Beltway, disgruntled politicians from both parties are looking forward to Emanuel’s departure. The foul mouthed Rahm has critics and enemies within the White House and on Capitol Hill who are eager to see him return to Illinois. Progressives see Emanuel as playing the role of a …
